Activities To Do With Your Pet At Home

Training

Being stuck indoors is a great opportunity to practice basic or advanced training with your pet. Even if your pet already knows the commands, training sessions are fun and engaging. Basic commands such as sit, shake, lay down or stay can typically be taught to a pet fairly easily. Some advanced tricks may include roll over, speak, play dead or teaching names of household objects.

Treat Hunts

A great way to keep your pet entertained at home is to take some of his/her favorite treats and hide them around the house. Start by putting your pet in a space away from you (such as a bedroom or kennel) and hide the treats around the house. Once you are finished hiding, let them out and encourage them to sniff around for the treats. It is fun for them, and fun for you to watch! For most pets, this involves two of their favorite things, sniffing and treats.

Indoor/Outdoor Fetch

Most dogs love to play fetch, and it is a great way to give them exercise. If you have a yard area where your pet is able to run, fetch is a great way to get fresh air while staying entertained. If outside isn't an option, a long hallway or a set of stairs inside will work. Carpet is usually best for dogs to run on inside so they don't slide around or injure themselves.

Grooming

A day at home with your pet is the perfect time to give a bath, brush and groom your pet. Grooming is a basic need and part of being a good pet owner. In order to make grooming a positive experience for your pet, offer plenty of treats for a reward.

Interactive Toys

There are many interactive toys and feeders on the pet market today. These are a great way to keep your pet entertained while allowing them to learn. You can fill these toys and feeders with treats, food or even peanut butter.
